Home care giant Amedisys is expanding its reach into Michigan through a new partnership between its Contessa division and Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital. The agreement will bring an array of in-home acute care services to residents throughout Michigan.

“There has never been a more important time for us to partner with our patients and members along their entire healthcare journey and to give them the choices they want and need,” Wright Lassiter, III, president and CEO of Henry Ford Health System, said in a press release.

Nashville-based Contessa offers high-acuity care through three models: hospital care at home, skilled nursing care at home and palliative care at home. The company said the models have increased patient satisfaction, reduced hospital admissions by 44% and cut hospital length of stay by 35%.

Amedisys, one of the nation’s largest home care companies, acquired Contessa in June and operates the brand as a separate division. Contessa currently has partnerships with several large hospital systems including New York-based Mount Sinai Health System and Wisconsin-based Marshfield Clinic.

Henry Ford Health System operates five acute-care hospitals and 250 care sites throughout Michigan. Henry Ford will begin offering In-home services through Contessa in December.
