Duos, a digital health firm providing personal assistants to seniors, announced a $6 million capital infusion on Tuesday from healthcare investor Redesign Health. The funding will help the company as it expands services nationwide.

Duos is collaborating with managed health company Magellan Health to connect older adults with social support and resources to manage social isolation, healthcare access and behavioral health needs.

“We recognize that there are millions of older Americans who want to live full lives in their own homes, but need assistance with the social determinants of aging that interfere with their independence,” Duos CEO Karl Ulfers said. “At the same time we are tapping into the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. movement to create a workforce of talented and experienced individuals who are mobilizing as personal care assistants for aging,”

Duos pairs trained personal assistants with older adults to provide companionship and everyday needs, including using technology, arranging for transportation and navigating complicated health matters. The service will be provided to certain Medicare and Dual Eligible Medicaid members.

The company is tapping into two national trends: the growing population of seniors and the expansion of Medicare Advantage and Dual Eligible Medicaid programs which are providing supplemental benefits to cover wellness, transportation and other social determinants of health.
