Medicaid expansion in states like Texas, Florida and Georgia could help more than 4 million Americans get healthcare insurance. That’s according to a new report by the Commonwealth Fund.

President Joseph Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARP) provides financial incentives to the 14 states that haven’t expanded Medicaid eligibility to low-income adults. Expansion in those states would increase revenue by nearly $50 billion by 2022 and create more than one million jobs.

ARP encourages states to expand Medicaid programs to cover adults, up to age 65, with incomes at or below 138% of the federal poverty level. This year that amounts to $30,305 for a family of three.

The study said Medicaid expansion improves access to healthcare, improves health outcomes, strengthens rural healthcare providers, and reduces racial and ethnic disparities.
