HomeWell Care Services is helping augment palliative care and hospice support for chronically ill and dying patients who remain in their home. A new program offers patients a schedule of personalized in-home care that complements their palliative or hospice care.

“Aging adults and others facing serious, life-threatening diseases are choosing to spend their most challenging times and even final days where they are most comfortable: their own home,” Michelle Cone, HomeWell’s SVP of training and brand programs, said in a statement. “It’s incredibly important that their families have access to supportive, compassionate services. Our Palliative Care Support and Hospice Care Support programs support family caregivers when they feel overwhelmed, offering strength, comfort, and a shoulder to lean on whenever needed.”

The initiative comes as a growing number of home care and home healthcare companies look for opportunities to expand services to clients.  Under HomeWell’s program, each client is assigned a care manager who liaises with the client’s palliative care or hospice team. The care managers and caregivers receive additional training, guidelines and best practices to reinforce their understanding of palliative and hospice care.

The program focuses on minimizing pain and other symptoms, while providing personal care to minimize stress, medication reminders and emotional support for clients and their families.

HomeWell Care Services provides personal care to more than 3,000 clients in approximately 85 territories in the U.S. and Canada.
