Humana’s Kindred at Home division is starting its transition to CenterWell Home Health. The move comes a year after Humana rebranded its payer-agnostic healthcare service offerings and nearly a year after the company acquired Kindred at Home.

Andrew Agwunobi, M.D., president of Humana’s home business, said despite the name change, patients would see no change in their care.

“Patients will continue receiving personalized in-home care from the clinicians they’ve come to know and trust,” Agwunobi said in a statement. “CenterWell Home Health helps reinforce all we’re doing to expand our home health capabilities to better manage the comprehensive care needs of our patients.”

The name change will begin shortly in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and North Carolina. The rebranding of other Kindred at Home locations will continue throughout 2022.

Agwunobi said CenterWell Home Health will focus on improving patient outcomes and keeping home care as a central component of the patient healthcare experience. The strategy aims to reduce hospital admissions and readmissions in an effort to reduce healthcare costs overall.

Last April, Humana inked a $2.4 billion deal to buy the remaining 60% stake in Kindred, bringing its total investment in the home health firm to $8.1 billion. Humana completed the acquisition late last summer. At the time, Louisville-based Humana said Kindred at Home would enhance the company’s Medicare Advantage plans, allowing Humana to bring care into patients’ homes and better manage healthcare costs.
