Although many struggle as they strive for perfection, Stephanie Maupin, the executive director of Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living in Elkhart, IN, seems to have achieved it with ease.

During Mauphin’s first stint at Brentwood at Elkhart, she received awards for perfect Indiana State Department of Health surveys in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The community also received the company’s Ascender Award for reaching 100% occupancy.

Brentwood also has received “Best of Assisted Living” awards two years in a row through Senior Advisor thanks to Maupin. The 83-unit community is owned by American Health Investors and managed by Integral Senior Living.

Maupin graduated from Wright State University in 2008 and immediately launched her career in senior living as the director of social services/admissions and marketing for a long-term care community. In 2015, she received her health facility administrator license from the state of Indiana before starting at Brentwood. She has held senior living executive director positions in both Indiana and Michigan, serving both for-profit and nonprofit senior living communities.

In 2016, she received the company’s Joy, Independence, Wellness Award, recognizing her commitment to creating a positive environment each day.

After a brief stint at Trilogy Health Services, she was recruited to return to Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living in her current role of executive director. Once back, she worked tirelessly with community leaders to decrease employee turnover from 117% to 0% in the last quarter of 2021.

She holds social worker certification in Ohio and Indiana, in addition to her nursing home administrator license in Michigan.

When not at work, Maupin and her husband enjoy taking care of their hobby farm of nine Nigerian Dwarf goats; countless rescue cats; a chocolate labrador retriever, Ruby; and their rescue dog, a Texas Heeler named Jake.

“She cares about every employee, resident and family as if they are her own family,” said colleagues Courtney Kryder and Jeanie Colagrossi. “We can think of no other person as deserving of this [award] as her.”
