scales of justice

Three people were charged last week after allegedly bilking two home health clients out of $1.5 million, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office in Toms River, NJ.

Jeffrey Dampf, the power of attorney and accountant for his two elderly siblings, reportedly hired two others, Robert Tindall and Leanna Guido, to pose as licensed home health aides for the siblings, despite their lack of credentials, according to the prosecutor’s office.

“Within the last year, Tindall and Guido received funds they were not entitled to in an amount exceeding $1.5 million,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a press release. “The funds misappropriated by check and electronic transfer were drafted to appear as though they were legitimate reimbursements for monies expended for the care and benefit of the elderly victims. There were also large payouts purported to be gifts authorized by the elderly victims.”

Billhimer said Dampf misappropriated the funds and falsified large payouts as authorized gifts, the prosecutor said. Dampf also allegedly tried to electronically transfer $500,000 to himself from one of the victim’s bank accounts.
