Paper with Fair Labor Standarts Act FLSA on a table

Two Garland, TX, home health agencies will pay $1.2 million in back wages to more than 200 workers following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Investigators for the Hour and Wage Division found Vital Home Health Care and Comfort Home Health Care violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay workers all of the hours that they work and for failing to pay overtime.

“The importance of home health care workers to the families they serve cannot be overstated,” Acting Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division Jessica Looman said in a news release. “The Wage and Hour Division protects these essential workers and works tirelessly to ensure they are paid all of the wages they have earned. We are also here to help responsible employers who follow the law and encourage them to reach out to us for confidential compliance assistance.”

The Labor Department also said the two agencies also violated record keeping provisions of FLSA by failing to keep track of all hours employees worked.
