Get the second shot. That is the advice White House COVID-19 response coordinator Ashish K. Jha, M.D., gave to people over age 60 who haven’t yet gotten a fourth coronavirus vaccination. Jha made his comments Sunday during an appearance on Fox News Sunday

Ja said seniors in Israel who received a second booster saw a significant reduction in both infections and death from COVID-19 four months following vaccination.

“The data out of Israel is pretty compelling for people over 60.” Jha said. 82

Late last month, the Food and Drug Administration authorized a second COVID-19 booster for people 50 and older, as well as people 12 and older with certain immune deficiencies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also updated guidance that supports the FDA authorization. 

New cases of coronavirus infections have dropped significantly since the winter. In early January, the number of new daily cases reached a high of 1.3 million. By late last week, the number had dropped to a little more than 36,000 new cases a day. Despite that, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci, M.D., warned of another wave of infections from the BA.2 variant or another variant by this fall.
